How can I increase impressions on my LinkedIn posts?

Get real comments in the first hour, post two to three times a week and grow a relevant network. Posts with real discussion reach far more people than likes alone.

LinkedIn first shows a post to a small slice of your network and watches what happens. If people stop, read and comment, it shows the post to more of your connections and then to their networks. Impressions are therefore a result of early engagement, not of a trick in the post itself.

Comments are the strongest lever. As our LinkedIn post tips put it, a post with 50 thoughtful comments can outperform a viral post with 20,000 views and no discussion. The same article found that two to three posts a week was the sweet spot: one was too few to stay visible and daily posting tired the audience. Exact posting time mattered far less than people assume.

Network size sets the ceiling. A founder with 600 connections and one with 4,000 can write the same post and see very different numbers. Sending 10 to 15 well-chosen connection requests a week, as suggested in our guide to connection requests, adds roughly 150 to 250 relevant connections over half a year, and every one of them is a potential first viewer.

What moves impressions

  1. 1End with a real questionAsk something your readers have an opinion on, such as how they price a pilot. Avoid "Thoughts?", which rarely starts a discussion.
  2. 2Stay for the first hourReply to every comment in the first 60 minutes. Each reply is another comment and keeps the post moving.
  3. 3Comment on others firstLeave three or four useful comments on posts in your niche before publishing. People who see your name are more likely to engage back.
  4. 4Keep links when they add valueTests described in our post tips found a link in the post performs about the same as one in the comments. Worry about value, not placement.
  5. 5Write at the right lengthMake one point per post and cut what does not serve it. See how long a LinkedIn post should be for ranges by post type.

Track impressions per post over eight to ten posts rather than judging any single one. If impressions stay flat while comments rise, the network is the limit, so grow it. If both stay flat, the opening lines are the problem.
