How long does SEO take to bring B2B leads to a new website?

For a new B2B website, SEO usually brings the first leads after 6–9 months and a steady flow after 12–18. Niche topics with little competition can work in 3–4 months.

A new domain has no history, few links and no proof that it deserves to rank, so search engines trust it slowly. B2B keywords also have small volumes: a phrase searched 90 times a month might bring 5–10 visits even from a top position, and at a typical B2B website conversion rate that is one lead every month or two per page.

A realistic timeline looks like this. Months 1–3 go on technical basics, directory listings and the first 8–12 articles, with traffic close to zero. Months 4–6 bring long-tail rankings and the first enquiries. From month 7 onwards, pages that answer specific buyer questions start to bring leads every week. Our guide to SEO for a new product recommends submitting to 5–10 relevant directories a week as part of that foundation.

The wait pays off in cost. Once organic channels work, they typically produce qualified meetings for €30–80 each, according to our guide to calculating B2B acquisition cost, well below most paid channels. The catch is that you pay for the content months before the first lead arrives.

How to shorten the wait

  1. 1Target questions, not head termsWrite for specific long-tail questions your buyers ask. They rank sooner than broad terms such as 'B2B marketing'.
  2. 2Build the base earlyList the product in relevant directories and make sure every service page says clearly who it is for.
  3. 3Publish on a steady rhythmTwo useful articles a month for a year beat twenty in the first month followed by silence.
  4. 4Earn a few relevant linksLinks from partners, clients and industry directories build trust faster than any number of random links.
  5. 5Track leads, not just trafficMeasure enquiries from organic visits. A page with 40 visits and two leads is worth more than one with 2,000 visits and none.

Because SEO takes months, run a faster channel alongside it. Meetcatcher gets you conversations with potential clients from the first week, which keeps the pipeline moving while content builds up, and what you hear on those calls tells you which questions are worth writing about.
