Is Google Ads worth it for a small B2B service business?
Only when one client is worth at least €5,000 and you can test with €1,500–3,000 over two to three months. Below that, paid clicks rarely pay back for small service firms.
Google Ads works when people search for your service by name, such as "payroll outsourcing for startups" or "Shopify developer". Many B2B services are not searched like that. Buyers do not know the term, or they ask peers instead, so the budget goes to students, competitors and job seekers.
The cost is real even when it works. Our guide to customer acquisition cost puts paid channels at €200 to €400 per booked meeting. If you need five meetings to win one client, that is €1,000 to €2,000 per client before your own time, which only makes sense when a client is worth several times more.
Price also changes how people buy. As our article on choosing between ads and personal selling explains, small purchases happen after a click, while larger ones need a conversation first. A €15,000 service project is almost always sold in meetings, and the ad only starts the contact.
Google Ads makes sense when
- People search for the serviceYour main terms have real search volume in your region and clear buying intent, not only research intent.
- A client is worth €5,000 or moreLifetime value should be at least three times the cost per client you expect from ads.
- You can test properlyPlan €1,500 to €3,000 over 8 to 12 weeks with one service, one landing page and tracked enquiries.
- You answer the same dayPaid leads go cold within hours. If nobody replies on the day the enquiry arrives, the budget is wasted.
If two of these four are missing, start with channels that lead straight to a conversation and compare them using a realistic cost per qualified meeting. Direct introductions such as Meetcatcher calls, where you pay only when the call takes place, keep that cost tied to real conversations rather than clicks.
